WEATHERFORD, TX – April 16, 2024 - To celebrate the Coordinate Metrology Society’s
40th Anniversary, the CMSC is expanding its featured speakers to include 3 keynotes
that have been recognized as “Titans” of the coordinate metrology industry: John
Brown, Dr. Kam Lau, and John Palmateer. These individuals have a spent a lifetime
involved in Coordinate Metrology and greatly advanced the science we all use daily.
Each morning of the conference will include one keynote to discuss their area of
expertise, how coordinate metrology has changed since 1984, and where the industry is
going.
John D. Brown:
A luminary in the realm of industrial photogrammetry, John D. Brown
has dedicated his career to advancing the science of dimensional measurement.
With a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering and Applied Science from Yale
University and an MBA from the Kenan-Flagler Business School, Brown's journey
began under the tutelage of his father, Duane C. Brown, a pioneer in industrial
photogrammetry. Together, they developed the groundbreaking STARS film
photogrammetry system, laying the foundation for the widespread adoption of
photogrammetry within the industry. As President of Geodetic Systems (GSI), Brown
continues to spearhead innovation, leading the development of the V-STARS line of
digital industrial photogrammetric systems.
Dr. Kam Lau:
Renowned for his groundbreaking inventions in dimensional metrology,
Dr. Kam Lau has left an indelible mark on the industry landscape. With a PhD in
Mechanical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Dr. Lau's
illustrious career began at the US National Bureau of Standards (NBS), where he
pioneered the development of the Laser Tracker. As the founder, CEO, and CTO of
Automated Precision, Inc. (API), Dr. Lau has continued to drive innovation,
introducing a myriad of cutting-edge products and technologies that have become
industry standards worldwide.
John Palmateer:
A distinguished figure in the field of metrology, John Palmateer's
career at Boeing exemplifies a lifelong commitment to excellence and innovation.
He has a diverse educational background with Master’s degree in electrical
engineering as well his law degree. Now, as the founder of JDP Metrology
Consulting LLC, Palmateer continues to lend his expertise to high-profile projects
such as the Rubin's Observatory, where his contributions are pivotal in ensuring
precise dimensional control.
